Fetch Art 2.5 Released

CHANGES in version 2.5.0:
  • Added support for Amazon's new Web Services. As of August 15 2009, any version of Fetch Art prior to 2.5.0 will stop working as Amazon changed how their servers worked. This requires encrypting part of the call, which does slow each call down a little bit over the previous version.
  • Added more logic in constructing the query to Amazon to improve search accuracy and speed. It can often find album artwork now even if the album name is spelled wrong and it requires fewer calls to the server to find it.
  • Added a debug logging mode. This mode is off by default, but when activated will save a detailed log that you can send to me for support if you are having problems.
  • Added an option to turn off extended searching. Previously Fetch Art would try to find art for any album even if it found the wrong art. Now that level of searching is off by default. It may not find as much are, but accuracy should improve. You can turn it back on in the preferences if you like.
  • Added an automatic check for new versions.
  • Improved error handling.

    Hi,

Thank you for the new version. I´m not able to run it, though. I installed with the installer. Now I got a Script-Menu in itunes. But if I select FetchArt I am prompted to select FetchArt.app which I don´t find. Even worse because I accidently selected an app I´m not prompted anymore but FetchArt just won´t work... Is there an uninstaller? Is this a bug?

I´m on itunes 8.02 if that matters...

    Thank you for suggestions!

    Hi there,
I'm having the same problem here on Intel iMac - iTunes 8.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Hope there's a fix as I'd love to be able to try your software out.
    Regards,
    Craig

Wow, I've tested it on several computers and even had some beta testers try it. Let me redownload the installer and make sure nothing happened to it.

Oh, and the uninstall instructions are here: http://fetchartblog.blogspot.com/2007/05/fetch-art-uninstallation-instructions.html

The Fetch Art application should've installed in your Applications directory, so if the script asks where it is, it should be there. If it didn't install there, it's an installation problem.

Ok, I've modified the installer slightly. There was one setting that was incorrect. This didn't affect most users but apparently does affect some. Please redownload, and try again. Then report back here for support. Thanks!

    Hi,

thanks for uploading the new version. Now the Fetch Art.app is installed and seems to be working... BUT ...

after downloading the artwork I can´t copy it to itunes. When I try I get the AppleScript Error:

iTunes got an error: parameter error. (-50)

Could you point out what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks!

... sorry for the too early reply...

After deinstalling and installing everything works!

    Thank you!!!

    Hi Aric,
The new installer worked a treat. The previous installer didn't install the FetchArt app in the Applications folder, or anywhere else for that matter. All working now though, many thanks for your efforts.

    Craig

    Hi,

Could you let me know how I can remove the script icon on the itunes menu bar. I've searched for the script file but cannot locate it on my harddrive. A search only brings up the application.

Thank you for a very useful application.

    Many thanks and kind regards,

Again the uninstall instructions are here: http://fetchartblog.blogspot.com/2007/05/fetch-art-uninstallation-instructions.html They include how to remove the script menu.

Sorry - I had read your post on uninstallation before I wrote. It's just that, following your instructions, I cannot find the script file. Most strange.

    Many thanks.

Hmm, well it should be there. There are only two places iTunes scripts can be located:

    [your hard drive]/Library/iTunes/Scripts/

    or

    [your hard drive]/Users/[your user name]/Library/iTunes/Scripts/

But I told the installer to only put the script in the first location I showed above.

    Hello there,
I just installed the latest version and it doesn't seem to save any modified preference. I wanted to fetch artworks and to replace them if previously added, but every time I get a: "A total of x tracks were not added to the list" error.
i even tried to uninstall/install again, nothing's changed.
    (iTunes 8.2.1 and OS X 10.5.8)
    Thanks and kind regards!

Heathen Poetry I believe you've found a genuine bug. It looks like it is not restoring the saved settings. I'll have to release a new version with a fix for that. It might be a few days. Thanks for the feedback.

    Great app!

I'm running it on Snow Leopard, and I, too, seem to have the bug that doesn't allow you save changes to preferences.

    Keep up the great work!

I've been trying to replace some tracks that have exsisting artwork but it comes up with an alert that asks me to change the preferences first. I change the preferences but the same error comes back again and it doesn't store the changes I made to the preferences. I've unistalled and then installed again but it's still doing this - help?

    Thanks

    Cathy

Thanks Cathy. Yes there is a bug, and I am working on it. I am holding off on Releasing a new version of Fetch Art until Apple released the next iTunes update on September 8th. I want to test it with the new version before I release it. I'm sorry about the problem, and no, reinstalling it won't fix it, it's a bug in the software, so everyone is affected until I release a fixed version. Look for it coming soon. :-)

    Hi,

same issue here: Fetch Art w Itunes 8.x does not save preferences, so its impossible to run it with other than default settings

FetchArt works fine with iTunes 9, but the prefs save bug is still present.

    Thanks!

Ok, thanks for all the feedback. New version posted fixes all the problems I'm aware of. Please post if you still have issues. Thanks!
